The Consortium

About

Art is better with more people in the room.

The Consortium is a women led collective in Washington, DC, dedicated to elevating artists, curators and collectors. We believe that building an art collection is an act of creation, one that transforms spaces and lives.

Our mission

Help artists thrive. Make collecting make sense.

Most artists we know are good at making things and tired of everything else: the selling, the shipping, the wondering whether anyone will come. Most would-be collectors we know love art and have no idea how to start. The Consortium exists in the space between those two groups.

So we do the unglamorous parts. We find the rooms, hang the walls, run the sales, and pay artists quickly and fairly. We host gatherings where makers and buyers actually talk to each other. And we say out loud what a piece costs and why, so that the first purchase feels less like a leap.

Our shows are hung salon-style, floor to ceiling, with emerging artists beside artists with decades of exhibition history and nobody sorted by room or by rank. Eighty percent of every sale goes to the artist. That number is not a footnote. It is the reason we exist.

two artists, one group chat, zero chill

Sarah Jamison

Co-founder

Sarah is a fine artist based in Washington, DC. Her drawings, paintings and mixed media work reflect, confront and dignify the female and mortal experience, using her own photography as reference. A graduate of the Corcoran College of Art + Design, she has had solo exhibitions at IA&A at Hillyer, Latela Curatorial and Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, and she teaches at Washington Studio School and Capitol Hill Arts Workshop.

Stephanie Ervin

Co-founder

Stephanie is a Washington, DC artist working in watercolor and colored pencil. Her work celebrates abundant femininity, superimposing female figures onto richly detailed landscapes in lush, maximalist color. Through Wander Color Studio she paints live at weddings, hotels and restaurants.

Advisory board

The group chat.

Every good idea we have gets sent to three people first. They tell us when it is too much, and then they help us do it anyway. Meet the advisory board.

Lindsay Gressard

A DC artist and emerging large-scale muralist whose studio practice takes a much smaller view: colored pencil, meticulous precision, and an imagined inner world rendered in bright, candied color. Joyful and a little foreboding, on purpose.

Marianne Alberti

Retired in 2023 after forty years in the hotel business "with a skip in my step and a song in my heart," and never looked back. Knows her soul is an artist. Endlessly inspired by the strength, wisdom and empathy of women and girls. Her words: "Our day is coming."

Rachel Wallach

Works in a kaleidoscope of media. She sculpts vibrant fantasy creatures out of felt and rhinestones that leap from walls or hang from ceilings, usually glowing in the dark, and screen-prints bold folk-art designs on wood and paper with her husband at Red Table Press.
